Frequently asked questions

1. Why should I choose endoscopic revision over surgical revision?

keyboard_arrow_down

Recent studies have shown that endoscopic revision is as effective (and sometimes more effective) than surgical revision. Additionally, up to 15-20% of the patients who undergo surgical revision may develop complications from revisional surgery–the risk of surgical revision is actually higher than that of the initial surgical intervention.

This endoscopic revision procedure of your gastric bypass or surgical sleeve is both safe and effective, with most of our patients maintaining their weight loss for 5 to 10 years.

2. What should I expect during the procedure?

keyboard_arrow_down

This outpatient procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Patients typically experience some minor abdominal discomfort and nausea, which are usually well managed with the medications prescribed after the procedure.

3. What is the recovery like after the endoscopic revision procedure?

keyboard_arrow_down

We usually have our patients go home the same day as the procedure, and they can return to their normal activities as tolerated the following day. You will have a special medication and dietary regimen to follow for several weeks after the procedure, which ensures you feel well and continue on your path to a healthier weight.

4. What sort of follow-up will I have?

keyboard_arrow_down

We take pride in the follow-up care we provide to our patients at IMCEB and BEM. We believe that the most important aspect of our job extends beyond your procedure with us; rather, we aim to be a key partner in your journey to well-being.

Our well-established and internationally recognized follow-up program and care team set us apart, and you will have scheduled visits over the course of a year.

5. Are endoscopic revisional procedures covered by insurance?

keyboard_arrow_down

Although endoscopic revisional procedures are mature, well-established, safe, and effective procedures, they are not covered by insurance. We do, however, offer financing options.

6. Why should I choose IMCEB (Instituto Mexicano de Cirugía Endoscópica y Bariátrica) and Bariatric Endoscopy of Mexico (BEM) for my procedure?
